Major Duties and Responsibilities
UNIX SUPPORT ANALYST
All staff are expected and encouraged to contribute to improvements in working practices and service delivery including the evaluation and recommendation of additional tools and support services.
·Act as escalation for Systems Administration staff in the resolution of technical issues on UNIX platforms.
·Act as focal point for cross-site or cross-platform issues and propose and implement solutions that fit within the infrastructure.
·Liaise with supplier support staff in the diagnosis and resolution of system related problems.
·Monitor the performance of the systems, and where necessary tune them. Produce recommendations for upgrades and system expansion where appropriate.
·Monitor the security of the systems in conjunction with the CIT Security and Network specialists and make recommendations for upgrades and improvements. Respond according to the incident response plan in order to protect systems against security threats.
Personal Qualifications
Sun Certified System Administrator for Solaris. Extensive experience with UNIX server support in a research*development environment, including systems management and communications (ideally TCP*IP). The ability to work in a team and pro-actively contribute to the overall team goals.
